How come there is no “waterproof” mascara in natural and organic cosmetics?

Waterproof mascaras can only be formulated from chemical components – from combinations of silicones and paraffins, in particular. But chemical components such as silicones, which are very polluting, and components derived from petrochemicals are simply not authorized in natural and organic cosmetics.

This is almost the same reason why there are no “very long-lasting” lipsticks in natural and organic cosmetics; to obtain this effect you must use very light oils which evaporate at body temperature. Such waterproofing can only be done using chemical components.
Mascaras in natural and organic cosmetics are therefore not waterproof, but on the other hand they are free from risks linked to chemical components. One of the risks is the formation of nitrosamines, carcinogenic components. Control authorities regularly withdraw products from sale containing non-regulatory levels of nitrosamines. Mascaras are often affected by this measure.
